Founded, according to the records, about 800 AD, by Consalvo, one of the followers of the Comte Colonna, sent by the pope to liberate Corsica from the sarrazins, Pigna has become a leader in social and cultural experiments. Pigna is the seat of many activities both on a local and national scale. After having sufferd the same decline as all rural communities, in the 1960's Pigna took up the challenge to live. Today Pigna has more young then aged, and people can create in thecalm certainty of the future. The proof is brought to us by the existence in the village of two shepherds, three farmers, one potter, two engravers, one fine printmaker, one cabinet maker, one builder, one organ maker, one lute maker, two shops selling health foods and artisanal wears and one hosterly.
